UHV Foil vs. Other Foils

There are plenty of options available when it comes to foil wrap. However, in critical vacuum areas, Ultra High Vacuum aluminum foil (UHV) stands out. For example, if you’re shipping delicate items like interior microscopes that require an ultra high vacuum, the foil must be clean and free from contamination.

Other Foils

Most recycled or reclaimed aluminum has a percentage of chemicals like magnesium or hydrogen. UHV aluminum is processed with additional purification steps that remove these impurities, such as de-gassing in a vacuum furnace.

What is UHV Foil

Ultra High Vacuum aluminum foil is virtually contamination-free and rated for clean room rated environments. This means the foil is “A” wettable and completely free from oils normally found on other grades of aluminum foil.

Highlights:

  • Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) foil is virtually contamination free.
  • Designed for use in controlled environments, including cleanrooms and vacuum chambers.
  • Each roll is individually wrapped in plastic and packed in a plastic box.
  • Certified to the American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM) designation B 479, specification 3.1.4 and 10.3.1.

UHV foil is produced on 1 5/16” plastic cores and wrapped in plastic to prevent foreign particles from penetrating the surface. Each UHV Aluminum Foil roll is then enclosed in a plastic dispenser box and w rapped in film to protect the clean room rating.
